New US President, Barack H. Obama’s victory in the presidential race was helped by the following obvious reasons: people’s disapproval of the current government in which McCain was believed to be the continuation of the current one, the fact that the Americans are more matured this time and the most pressing economic crisis the Americans is now facing which Obama has better policy compared to McCain.
Psychologically, people’s minds would tend to stick on the most current experiences. It was on the issues of security and economy that both candidates were focusing during their campaigns. McCain was more on the security issues and President Obama was more on the economic issues. Since economic issues are the most pressing problem the American people are currently facing, then the new US president has advantage over his opponent during his campaigns.
The Americans today are more matured than in the past decades. Skin color is no longer the issue of who should be managing the White House. The Americans didn’t look at the outside anymore of the person, but rather look into the inner part of him. It has helped Obama a lot.
Should the approval rating of the current government was better (at least 50%), it would have been a closed competition between the two candidates. Similar situation (Bush – Al Gore) could have been expected. So, looking at the three obvious factors mentioned, chances for Obama to win was great.
God Bless America with her new President – President Barack Hussein Obama!
