All the problems (big, medium or small) we are facing now in the world are mainly caused by GREEDINESS. Poverty, war, sickness, etc., surely are caused by nothing else, but greediness.When it comes to poverty, the basic question is why there are poor and rich in the world? Why not all are rich or all are poor? Clearly, it is because wealth is not in balance – not equally distributed to every nation and to everyone? Why this is so? The answer is clear – it’s GREEDINESS!History and our present world are dominated with wars: World War I, World War II, Gulf War, War between Iran and Iraq, War in Iraq, War in Afghanistan, War in Darfur, War in Sudan, War in the Korean Peninsula, etc. And why there’s and there were wars? Again, this is because of GREEDINESS!
During one of the church homily here in Bangkok, Thailand, an American priest had boldly told the parishioners that the main reason of the American war in Iraq was oil. I couldn’t believe at that time that a citizen – not an ordinary citizen - criticizing his own country’s real motives of having the war. But, later on people realized that the priest, may be out of his frustration, or just being honest enough, was really telling us all the truth.
Nowadays, millions of people are sick. People got sick, again, because of GREEDINESS. HIV/AIDS and other sexually related diseases are due to human greed on flesh. Overweight and obesity which lead to another form of sickness are also caused of GREEDINESS.
Why we have this current world economic crisis? Again it’s GREEDINESS!
And another form of greediness is manifested in the family – husband and wife relationships. Wife not contented with one husband or husband not contented with only one wife. It’s GREEDINESS! That’s why we have this divorce problem, broken homes –broken families, which lead to another youth related problems.
In my humble, simple and beautiful world inside the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), people who were supposed to be a good model in the community are also struggling on the same problem – GREDINEES! It’s manifested during our recreation times – tennis sessions. When I was still a student, and not yet very good at the tennis sport, I could not play until all the people playing very good tennis were gone. When time came that I already playing the sport excellently, I also did the same, until I realized that people were not happy about it and I remembered this same situation when I was still a student. So, it’s GREEDINESS! Now, I got over it already, because of the good enlightenment I have from God’s wisdom.
So, whether the problem is small, medium or big, the cause of all problems in the world is GREEDINESS! Knowing the cause now, it’s the right time to deal with it appropriately. The question is how? The answer is God’s wisdom will tell you and guide you.
