Below is the latest update of the successive earthquakes occurring this year 2010, with the latest one added that just happened few hours ago, and this time, it’s in Japan.
A 7.0 magnitude earthquake about two months ago (January 12, 2010) had killed more than 230,000 people in Haiti, and in just more than a month later (February 27, 2010), an 8.8 magnitude earthquake — the fifth-strongest since 1900 —had killed more than 900 people in Chile. In less than a week, in March 04, 2010, at around 8:20 A.M., (local time), it was then followed by another earthquake at the magnitude of 6.4 hitting the southern part of Taiwan. Four days later, on Monday, March 08, 2010, at 4:32 A.M., (local time) a strong pre-dawn 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck rural eastern Turkey, killing at least 57 people.
Today, Sunday, March 14, 2010, 5:08 P.M., just six days after the most recent one, another very strong 6.6 magnitude earthquake hits off the eastern coast of Japan rattling buildings across a broad swath of the country, including the crowded capital, but didn’t knock over anything in the office,” said Ken Yoshida, a town official in Naraha, one of the hardest-hit areas. He said an earthen wall in town was partially toppled.
Japan is one of the world’s most earthquake-prone countries. In 1995, a magnitude-7.2 quake in the western port city of Kobe killed 6,400 people.
Where will the next earthquake be striking and how many people more are going to be killed? This is again a billion dollar question that only God knows the answer. So, let’s be ready once again and pray that when it strikes us, God will save us.
